As winter draws nearer and the colder weather is on its way its time to start checking that your pipework is in good condition and properly insulated against the colder weather. Winter is no fun anyway and even less so if pipes burst and water enters the home.
As your local PLUMBER IN HEREFORD, we often attend to homes where pipes have burst and need replacing and, whilst we are happy to help with these problems, it is far more sensible to protect against them from occurring in the first place.
Pipe Insulation
Pipe insulation is fairly simple to install. The insulation comes in the form of hollow tubes that can be slipped around pipework as a ‘jacket’ and protects the pipes from freezing in the colder weather. It is relatively inexpensive and should not cost a great deal to install. Most pipework is buried in the floorboards, walls, and general fabric of the building so only really the exposed pipework needs to be protected from the elements.
The insulation needs to be pulled open to start with and then slipped around the pipes. Cable ties can be used to gently secure the insulation in place. Care should be taken not to attach these too tight. Any squeezing of the pipe insulation could cause cutting in over time. The joints where pieces of insulation meet should be taped with an appropriate pipe lagging tape.
Outdoor Taps
Outdoor taps are very convenient for watering the garden, cleaning outdoor areas, or washing off muddy pets before they come indoors. Unfortunately, we cannot use them all year due to the freezing conditions we experience over the winter so it is important that precautions are taken during the winter.
Ensure that any outdoor taps are properly insulated from the cold this year. There are special insulated tap covers that can be purchased to prevent outdoor taps from freezing. If you are not planning on using your outdoor taps for some time then see if there is an isolation valve to shut the water off to them as well as insulating them.
Leak Repairs and Pipework Alterations
If the worst does happen and you need leaks repaired then we can do this for you. You may also decide to have pipework relocated so that issues don’t reoccur in the future but not to worry, we carry out pipework alterations and relocations too.
Kitchen and Bathrooms
Purchasing new appliances, refitting the bathroom or kitchen will nearly always require a plumber. Connecting new appliances can require plumbing alterations or shut off valves. Moving a bathroom around or installing new taps can mean pipework needs to be moved, altered, or repaired.
Whatever your plumbing needs we are here to help.
No water?
If you find that you have no water, before calling your local PLUMBER IN HEREFORD, check with your neighbours to see if they are experiencing similar issues with their water supply. If so, then it is likely to be a supply issue rather than a problem in your own home. If your neighbours have water supply then it is more likely that an issue exists in your property and this is the time to get in touch.
We can fault find plumbing problems, carry out the necessary tests and establish the cause of water supply problems in your home.
