Core Components for a Boiler Installation and Central Heating

A Boiler Installation and Central Heating system will typically comprise of five core components. Naturally there are many other smaller components that make up these systems, but these are the only ones SpartaMech feel are worth noting and offering a brief explanation as to their purpose.

  1. Boiler – This is the core of your central heating system whose purpose is to heat the water.
  2. Radiators/ Underfloor Heating – These distribute the heated water around your property.
  3. Pipework – The web of pipes that carry the heated hot water from the boiler to the radiators in your property and back again.
  4. Pump – This moves the heated water around your system.
  5. Controls – These come in the form of a thermostat to control the general temperature and time, thermostatic radiator valves which manage the temperature of the independent radiators and a timer or programmer which can turn the system on or off for both the heating and hot water systems.

Process of a Boiler Installation and Central Heating

Boiler Installation – A Boiler Installation alone from SpartaMech will generally involve us removing your old boiler before cleaning out the rest of the system. Pipework may need to be upgraded also before the new boiler is installed. Once we have fitted the controls and checked that your new boiler is installed and set up correctly it can then be registered with both the manufacturer and Gas Safe.

Central Heating – With a complete Central Heating system SpartaMech will install the radiators, lay down the pipework and connect it to the radiators, install the boiler, set up the controls to work in accordance with the rest of the system and again ensure the new system has been set up correctly. This will ensure its efficiency, prevent any problems from occurring, make certain it is meeting regulations and validate your warranty.

Types of Boiler Installation from SpartaMech

There are three main types of boilers on the market, and these are a combi boiler, system boiler or a conventional boiler. SpartaMech mainly only carry out the installation of combi boilers and we believe these are also the most popular choice for most properties.

Combi  - This is short for combination. These are a single unit that is compact in size and  offers both central heating and hot water as and when needed. This type of boiler does not require a hot water cylinder or cold-water tank.

System – This type of system also supplies both your central heating and hot water however it requires a hot water storage cylinder. This takes water direct from you mains water supply is not an on-demand supply like the combi.

Conventional – These are sometimes referred to as either a regular or heat only boiler. They also heat water for central heating and hot water but requires both a hot water storage cylinder as well as a cold-water tank unlike the combi also.
