Our Gas boilers need regular maintenance to prevent breakdown, parts failures, and premature failure. Many homeowners forget that the boiler needs servicing and will only remember that it needed doing when it breaks down.
Preventative maintenance is best to ensure that it doesn’t break down at the most important times. As your local GAS ENGINEER IN HEREFORD, we carry out preventative maintenance and servicing to ensure your boiler does not fail due to lack of care.
When is the best time to have my boiler serviced?
The best time to have a boiler serviced is often in the summer time. Whilst this may seem odd because you don’t really have the heating on in the summer, it is the time when parts are readily available and engineers are available to fit them.
During the winter, it can be very difficult to find a gas engineer to repair your boiler because so many boilers break down in the winter time meaning engineers are often to busy to service boilers at this time and parts may be difficult to obtain.
What is involved in a boiler service?
Gas boilers are always service in accordance with the manufacturers’ instructions. The requirements can vary between manufacturers but generally speaking the flue gas readings are checked, the condensate trap is emptied and the general operation of the boiler will be checked.
Other items of maintenance may be carried out such as, the pressure in the expansion vessel, the cleaning of the burner, gas valve maintenance, replacing of important seals and more.
Why are some services expensive?
You should check with your gas engineer the type of service they are planning to do. Cheap services often involve nothing more than inserting a probe into the flue to take readings. A more expensive service will often involve a thorough check of the components, test readings, cleaning and checking seals within the boiler.
Certain boiler manufacturers service packs are more expensive than others and different models of boiler may be more labour intensive to service with difficult to access components and parts.
How often should my boiler be serviced?
Boiler servicing is recommended annually to ensure everything is working correctly. Regular servicing using a professional engineer will also alert you to any components that may be showing signs of wear. This allows you some warning of when a major repair may be looming or perhaps allow you to financially plan for a new boiler at some point.
The most important thing is peace of mind for our customers.
If your boiler is not regularly serviced then there is no opportunity for a Gas Engineer to keep an eye on it. If the boiler were to break down without regular servicing there could be multiple components that are AT RISK or IMMEDIATELY DANGEROUS resulting in the need to isolate the appliance until repairs are carried out. When multiple parts are required in order to safely reinstate a Gas Boiler, it can become expensive rather quickly and may not be something that you had budgeted for.
