Underfloor Heating Installation

We have seen an increase in customers in Hereford trying to reduce their carbon emissions in an effort to bring down energy bills and one easy solution is having underfloor heating installed. Traditional radiators not only take up wall and floor space and get in the way when trying to position furniture but they also produce nearly four times as much carbon dioxide than water based underfloor heating.

Warm water or wet underfloor heating involves a system of tough, pliable tubing which is filled with warm water. Water is a magical substance with endless properties, one such property is its ability to provide warmth without heating to a high temperature due to its large surface area.

If you’re considering major building works or renovating your home, you might want to include warm water/wet underfloor heating as there are considerably lower long term running costs compared to electric underfloor heating.

Get in touch with Sparta Mech Hereford during your initial planning stages if you’re planning a new build or extension work as installing warm water or wet underfloor heating would be ideal in the early building stages.

How does underfloor heating work?

The best way to describe the concept of underfloor heating is to imagine turning the floor space in your home into a huge heater. Strong, flexible tubes made of polyethylene are laid evenly across your floor, warm water flowing through the tubes radiate heat to the surroundings.

  • The tubing is then covered with screed (a mixture of cement and water) to ensure the tubing is fixed into place and to provide a smooth even surface so that the flooring of your choice can be laid on top.
  • The tubing is then connected to a manifold. A manifold is a device which when connected to the boiler and heating system, distributes warm water to reach the underfloor heating.
  • The great benefit of a device such as a manifold is that they are able to control multiple zones at one time, allowing each zone or room to be heated to a different temperature.
  • The even nature of the tubing across your floor prevents any cold areas where traditional radiators would fail to warm up these areas.

What are the benefits of underfloor heating?

Energy efficient- By having underfloor heating installed, you'll be emitting fewer greenhouse gases as a heat pump will be used to heat the water within the tubing in the floor) reducing your carbon footprint.

Most conventional radiators rely on the water inside it reaching between 70 and 80℃ but the water within underfloor heating systems only needs to reach around 35℃, which is adequate to heat your home and means your energy bills are much lower.
At Sparta Mech, we have recognised that more and more of our customers based in Hereford are opting for underfloor heating as the demand for greener living increases.

Maximise space- It can be quite troublesome placing bulky furniture such as large sofas, TV’s or media stations in a room if there are traditional radiators taking up space along a wall. Having underfloor heating installed, maximises your wall and floor space giving you the freedom to position furniture to your liking.

Flexi and remote control- With the demand for smart technology rising, you can now control many settings such as the temperature of individual rooms using an app on your smartphone.
